KLCC reports 13 per cent annual events growth

ASIA – The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) hosted 1,119 events from 1 January to 30 September 2012, a 13 per cent increase on the 973 held in the previous corresponding period.
 
The venue claimed the events, which served 1.2m visitors and delegates, brought in an economic impact contribution of MYR407m (US$134m) to the city of Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia.
 
Since commencing operations in June 2005, more than 6,300 events and 13.2m attendees have helped contribute RM4bn in economic impact contribution.
 
Commenting on the 13 per cent increase, GM Peter Brokenshire acknowledged the KLCC team has worked “to ensure a positive experience for all our clients and their guests, regardless of the size of their event”.
 
The period in review saw the centre host one of the largest events in its seven and a half years of operation. The 25th World Gas Conference 2012 in June attracted 8,000 delegates fill the Centre’s entire 22,659sqm of function space including a 2,600sqm purpose-built marquee.
 
KLCC, which has more than 25 major events lined up between now and the end of the year, could find its dominance challenged by the new MYR555.9m Matrade Exhibition Centre bound for Kuala Lumpur in 2015.
