JAPAN – Kyoto Convention Bureau has welcomed news of Japan’s first budget airline, which is set to take flight early next year.
The airline entitled Peach has three major shareholders: All Nippon Airways (ANA), Innovation Network Corporation of Japan and the First Eastern Investment Group and will operate out of Kansai International Airport in Osaka, Japan.
Kyoto Convention Bureau’s International Marketing Co-ordinator James Kent told CMW: “I am delighted that the budget airline business model has come to Japan at long last. This can be nothing but a positive for association conferences in the country.
“The fact that Peach’s base is Kyoto’s local airport makes it a particular bonus for the meetings industry here and we expect to see even greater participation from Korean delegates when the Seoul to KIX flight comes in to service.
“Logic dictates that if Peach makes the region more accessible to Asian attendees, the bid papers of Kansai region cities (Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto, Nara) become even stronger. It also dictates that meetings already decided can expect an even higher Asian attendance,” added Kent.
The airline will initially serve Fukuoka Airport, Kansai International Airport and New Chitose Airport in Japan, andIncheon International Airport in the Republic of Korea.
