Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority approves first phase of Las Vegas Convention Centre overhaul

AMERICAS – The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has approved the concept and first phase of the planned US$2.5bn overhaul of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
 
The development, which includes a World Trade Center building and a transport hub, will be developed over the next decade.
 
The Las Vegas Global Business District was unanimously backed by the board, favouring the expansion of the half century-old convention and exhibition venue.
 
Renovation proposals include adding to the venue’s exhibition space and conference facilities, as well as new technology and onsite amenities.
 
Cost for the first phase are estimated at $150m, largely attributed to administrative and development costs rather than production.
 
Business conducted at the second edition of Vegas tradeshow IMEX America 2012 was valued at US$3.3bn by organiser IMEX Group.
