Las Vegas Sands has begun construction on an $8bn “ultra-luxury” resort in Singapore. The US-based casino and resort operator first opened Marina Bay Sands in 2010. The new development that Las Vegas Sands is building will feature even more meeting space – 200,000sqft to Marina Bay Sands’ 120,000sqft.
Key elements of the resort will include a 570-suite luxury hotel tower with rooftop attractions, high-end dining, luxury retail boutiques, spa facilities, premium gaming experiences and approximately 200,000sqft of meeting and event space. A major highlight will be a purpose-built 15,000-seat arena intended to become a top venue for entertainment in Asia, situated against backdrop of Marina Bay.
“With its opening in 2010, our founder Sheldon G Adelson embarked on a journey in Singapore with Marina Bay Sands and the people of Singapore that promised to change the face of tourism in the region. Fifteen years later, we have delivered on these ambitions and more,” said Robert Goldstein, chairman and chief executive of Las Vegas Sands.
“Marina Bay Sands is the world’s most successful integrated resort in history, and the gold standard in the industry. We have every intention of delivering a product that will be the envy of the hospitality industry and usher in a new era of luxury tourism in Singapore.”
The resort is being designed by Safdie Architects, led by Moshe Safdie, who also created Marina Bay Sands. The arena will be designed by Populous, a leading global architecture firm for live entertainment and sports venues.
