Law Business Research Ltd (LBR), a portfolio company of global asset manager ICG, has announced the acquisition of Legal Geek, a leading provider of legal tech events and conferences. The acquisition, sealed 7 October, comes following information company ALM and LBR’s merger earlier in 2025, adding Legal Geek’s four events to events to the group’s existing event portfolio, which includes Legal Week, Women, Influence & Power in Law, and the IPBC series.
Mayfield Merger Strategies acted as advisors to the Legal Geek shareholders. Legal Geek’s management team, Jimmy Vestbirk and Beth Fellner, will remain with the business and continue to lead the Legal Geek portfolio, which they have grown in recent years.
Nick Brailey, LBR CEO, commented: “We have long admired Legal Geek – the team have built a fantastic business that is unique in the industry. We are excited to support Jimmy and Beth in this next chapter of growth.”
Jimmy Vestbirk, managing director Legal Geek noted: “We are thrilled to become part of the Law Business Research/ALM family. We share a common vision, underpinned by core values of delivering success to our people, customers, and partners. This is the right time to unlock Legal Geek’s growth and expansion, and access to ALM and LBRs’ global resources will enable Legal Geek to scale our offering in existing and new markets.”
Legal Geek returns to London’s Old Truman Brewery on 15-16 October, expecting 4,500 attendees for its 10th annual conference. The two-day event will feature keynotes, workshops, product pitches and networking sessions focused on legal technology.
Speakers include actor and presenter Stephen Fry, former Danish prime minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt, Master of the Rolls Sir Geoffrey Vos, and courts and legal services minister Sarah Sackman KC MP. The Law Society of England and Wales is the headline partner. The event is run in collaboration with LawCare, the Society of Computers and Law and the Centre for Legal Leadership.
