Singapore’s Sands Expo & Convention Centre has launched the I Play SG Music initiative, a programme to put local, homegrown artists on stage for visitors to enjoy. This initiative is part of a three-year partnership between Marina Bay Sands and the National Arts Council (NAC), established last September, that aims to bring the arts closer to local and international visitors.
Play SG Music is part of Hear65, a national movement to celebrate Singaporean music. A playlist featuring local artists like Jasmine Sokko, Linying, Nathan Hartono, Sezairi, and The Great Spy Experiment will be the default soundtrack for all events at Sands Expo. This music will also play along the venue’s corridors and the Origin + Bloom café on Level 3. The playlist will have 40 artists initially, with more to be added in the future.
Ong Wee Min, Marina Bay Sands’ vice-president of sales & MICE, commented: “The launch of I Play SG Music at Sands Expo & Convention Centre signals our further commitment to supporting the Singapore arts scene. This will enrich the meetings experience, introducing homegrown artists and music to both local and international visitors, allowing them to develop a deeper appreciation for the arts.”
Lynette Pang, deputy chief executive officer of NAC, added: “NAC is excited to partner Marina Bay Sands to launch I Play SG Music, allowing Singaporeans and visitors to enjoy local music while enlivening Singapore’s largest meeting and convention space.”
Since the partnership’s launch, the Singapore resort has also established the Sands Innovative Arts Fund with a donation of S$500,000 (US$372,108).
During the Singapore MICE Awards held at Sands Expo 25 July, Marina Bay Sands won Venue of the Year, and sales manager Edward Ong was named Emerging Talent of the Year. This marks the second consecutive win for the resort as Venue of the Year since the awards were launched last year.
Sands Expo has hosted a number of major events this year, including the Rotary International Convention, ART SG, PCMA APAC The Business of Events, and The Meetings Show Asia Pacific. Upcoming key events include TOKEN2049, ITB Asia, and Singapore International Agri-food Week.
