Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands is poised for an expansion that includes a new all-suite hotel tower and a 15,000-seat arena situated between the new tower and the existing facilities. Construction of the new tower and arena is slated to begin by July next year, with completion expected by July 2029. Since its opening in 2010, Marina Bay Sands has attracted 470m visitors and hosted over 1,750 new-to-Singapore business events. Included in the expansion plans is additional space for business events at Marina Bay Sands. The resort already features three towers topped by the iconic SkyPark and is undergoing a second-phase refurbishment worth US$1.75bn. The Sands Expo and Convention Centre currently offers over 120,000sqm of event space, boasting the largest ballroom in Southeast Asia. Patrick Dumont, president and chief operating officer of Marina Bay Sands’ parent company, Las Vegas Sands, said: “With the ongoing support of the Singapore Government, this development will further enhance the leisure and business tourism appeal of Singapore.” He added: “It optimises the site’s programming elements and is designed to drive high-value tourism growth to Singapore.” Dumont also highlighted the expected impact of the expansion: “The all-suite hotel tower will set new standards of hospitality, the state-of-the-art arena will help attract the highest-calibre global entertainment events and artists, and the additional convention and exhibition space will extend the success of Singapore as a leading MICE destination.”
