Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) has announced the launch of its 2022 MEA Mentor Programme. With the support of Tourism Australia, the 2022 programme from the industry association will aim to connect event professionals across Australia to share and enhance skills, expertise and career progression prospects. Mentees will be matched with industry mentors who will look to provide valuable counsel and learning opportunities over a three-month period, April-June 2022. An online hosted platform will again be used this year to ensure interaction, tracking and resources is provided for participants. Peter McDonald, CEO of MEA, said: “Participation has been an experience equally highly valued by both mentees and mentors. In a time when our industry finds itself facing unprecedented challenge, the true value of this programme will come to the fore through its provision of a continuum via which experience and knowledge is shared with the industry’s next generation leaders by its current champions.” Robin Mack, executive general manager of commercial and business events at Tourism Australia, stated: “With Australia reopening its borders to quarantine-free travel from 21 February, it is critical to continue to support the future development of our industry, to ensure Australia continues to deliver high calibre business events and remains a competitive business events destination internationally.” Eligibility to participate as a mentee is restricted to MEA members. Events sector professionals interested in being either a mentee or mentor must express their interest to MEA before 21 March 2022, via cwatson@mea.org.au
