The Netherlands’ Maastricht Exhibition & Conference Centre (MECC) is closing out 2025 with a record turnover of €21.3m and a record profit of €957,000. The venue posted an increased turnover from €19.4m in 2024 to €21.3m in 2025 and a loss of €353,000 in 2024 was turned into a profit of €957,000 in 2025.
The MECC reported a strong year thanks to the growth in events and in-house productions. There was growing demand for both national and iinternational conferences, trade shows and corporate and public events.
MECC said the excellent performance of its own events such as InterClassics Maastricht and InterClassics Brussels further reinforced this growth. The combination of Michelin and its own hospitality trade fair BBB Maastricht has proven to be a successful formula.
The success is also due to the large-scale upgrade and expansion of the venue. There were targeted investments in ICT, operational excellence and improved planning processes which increased efficiency and optimised the use of space, staff and technical resources.
John Aarts, alderman for mobility, urban management, sustainability and hospitality for the Municipality of Maastricht, said: “The 2025 results and the expectations for the coming years show that the MECC is once again consistently in the black as it was before Covid, and at a significantly higher level than before.”
Management added that the outlook for 2026 was positive. “Thanks to the strong foundation of repeat productions, the growing international conference portfolio and high-performing in-house productions, MECC Maastricht expects both turnover and financial results to increase further to €23.5m and €1.1m, respectively,” a financial statement said.
The 2026 schedule includes a large number of international conferences. In May 2026, MECC Maastricht will host the largest conference in its history: the European Stroke Organisation Conference (ESOC), bringing in over 5,000 participants.
