AUSTRALIA – The Melbourne Convention Centre has won the right to host the International Lactation Consultant Conference 2013.
The five-day business event is estimated to attract more than 1,500 delegates to the city and inject AU$7.6m (US$6.5m) into the Victorian State economy.
“The event will not only bring in valuable delegate dollars to Melbourne, but will also provide a catalyst for attendees and their accompanying families and friends to engage in pre- and post-touring around Victoria,” says CEO of the Melbourne Convention and Visitors Bureau (MCVB) Sandra Chipchase.
“Whilst historically this event has been held in the USA,” says president of the ILCA, Angela Smith, “holding this conference in Melbourne provides the opportunity to share Australian research and knowledge with our international colleagues, with the ultimate goal of improving breastfeeding care for mothers and babies.”
ILCA has members from 50 countries including lactation consultants, nurses, physicians, midwives and other health professionals.
