New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has said that anyone wishing to visit a bar or restaurant in the city, or indeed any indoor business, will have to prove they have had an approved Covid-19 vaccination.
The city-wide order, a programme known as ‘Key to NYC Pass’, will be enforced from 13 September. Currently around 55% of New York’s population is fully vaccinated against coronavirus.
The mayor was speaking at a news conference, 3 August, and said: “If you want to participate in our society fully, you’ve got to get vaccinated.”
To enter indoor venues, people in New York will be required to either use a new app which will show their vaccination detail or show written proof.
In Los Angeles and Washington DC local officials have ordered a resumption of indoor mask wearing as the Covid Delta variant surges in the US.
