MIDDLE EAST – The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) was recently selected by the Jordan Tourism Development II Project to provide training and guidance to 30 of the country’s meetings industry professionals to help them prepare for the Convention Industry Council’s (CIC) Certified Meetings Professional (CMP) exam.

Jordan’s National Tourism Strategy has targeted the international MICE sector as a major business opportunity for the country and aims to advance its ability to facilitate, service and attract international business.

Sherrif Karamat (pictured), Chief Operating Office, PCMA, said: “PCMA is proud to have been selected to provide this training. The quality of our education is unparalleled and this selection will help bring PCMA’s education and products to new meetings professionals and destinations around the world.”

PCMA provided a two-day face-to-face training programme, 25-26 August, in Amman to help the Jordan participants prepare for the CMP exam. PCMA will also provide online training in the form of its CMP Online Prep Course.

“With such iconic attractions as Petra and the Dead Sea, along with many Biblical sites, Jordan is very well positioned to host international meetings and conventions as the country offers world-class facilities along with a diverse range of wonderful attractions and engaging experiences,” said Ibrahim Osta, the USAID Jordan Tourism Development Project Chief of Party.

“CMP certification for local operators will cement Jordan’s capacity to host meetings and conventions and thus help the sector grow this lucrative market. We are excited to partner with PCMA to help Jordanian applicants prepare for the CMP exams and gain international recognition for their specialisation.”

Karamat added that, if the PCMA could help global destinations grow their infrastructure and further professionalise the meetings industry while expanding the PCMA brand, then “membership globally and everyone wins”.

PCMA provides its 6,000+ members with a community of like-minded colleagues and education and has 17 chapters throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico with members in more than 35 countries.
