The Penang International Travel Exchange (PITE), an event curated by Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB), has returned bigger for its fifth edition this year with a wider range of buyers. Taking place, 15-17 November 2022, the event has welcomed 80 buyers from 14 countries to Malaysia. The trade show brings selected buyers worldwide to Penang to meet local industry players. PITE 2022 features business-to-business (B2B) sessions and networking events. Additionally, familiarisation trips are providing buyers with a better understanding of Penang’s attractions such as colonial architecture, natural scenic locations, culture, art and gastronomic experience. This year, PITE hosts a total of 40 exhibitors from the leisure tourism and business events industries in Malaysia. “PITE 2022 is a strong message that Penang is safe, ready, and moving progressively to rejuvenate and reactivate the business events industry. We are looking forward to expanding this trade show and position it as a globally recognised trade event,” said Ashwin Gunasekeran, the chief executive officer of organiser Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau. YB Yeoh Soon Hin, the Penang State exco for tourism and creative economy, said he hoped the show would also stimulate employment possibilities, attract new investments, foster new and current talent, and strengthen the local community. In conjunction with PITE 2022, PCEB also signed a memorandum of understanding with Network of Indian MICE Agents (NIMA), in order to boost the business ties between Penang and India. “PCEB is regularly taking the initiatives to attract business event groups to visit Penang,” said Gunasekeran. He added that India was a key market for business tourism and events in Penang. ”In addition to the incentive group from India, we are making strenuous efforts to organise association meetings as well in Penang,” he said.
