The US city of Philadelphia is set to welcome more than half a million major event attendees this year. The figure was announced by the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB), alongside partners at Visit Philadelphia, who hosted the 2024 Tourism Outlook event at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The event featured a look at tourism results for 2023, sales and marketing initiatives for each organisation in the year ahead, and industry advocacy priorities for 2024. PHLCVB president and CEO Gregg Caren shared insight on the events the city is welcoming this year that were booked by the bureau, including 180 total meetings, conventions and sporting events generated by the PHLCVB this year and 20 citywide events. Defined as a convention or event that generates more than 2,000 hotel rooms on its peak night, the ‘citywide’ calendar began in January with the Modern Language Association’s 2024 Annual Convention (4-7 January). One major standout for the city this year is WrestleMania 40, taking place 6-7 April 6-7 at Lincoln Financial Field. The WWE® megaevent will also feature additional spectator events at Wells Fargo Center. All told, the city is anticipated to welcome more than 200,000 attendees.
