PHL Life Sciences, a division of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB) has presented its annual Ultimate Solution Award to esteemed Jefferson University Hospital oncologist Edith Mitchell, MD. The award recognises an individual or organisation who has raised Philadelphia’s profile as a life sciences meeting and convention destination. Dr Mitchell has spent her medical career demonstrating the importance of community service and outreach, especially to those individuals who may not have the means to seek out more conventional medical advice. “I am honoured to be recognised with this award and am delighted to serve as an ambassador for Philadelphia as a life science destination,” said Dr Mitchell. “As a city known as the birthplace of American medicine, with so many innovative medical contributions, Philadelphia has a rich history and there is much more history to be made.” Philadelphia consistently ranks as a top city for life sciences, with the industry accounting for more than 50% of the bookings at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. In 2018 alone, 137 life science-related meetings and events generated US$101m in economic impact for the Greater Philadelphia region.
