Poland sets up new convention bureau in Silesia

In a signal that it will focus more on the development of the growing business travel sector, Poland’s Silesian Voivodeship (province) – via the Silesian Tourist Organisation – has set up a convention bureau to fill that gap. Silesia, a province in southern Poland, is characterised by its diverse tourism potential, high-quality infrastructure, and good connectivity. The authorities have understood that realising the potential for business events requires formalised support, Eighteen consortium members signed up with the Silesia Convention Bureau at the CVB’s inaugural conference in the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów recently. They included representatives from the world of science, large and small businesses, diverse services and individual sub-regions of Silesia. Hotels, restaurants, operators of tourist attractions, congress venues, and companies organising incentive events will all benefit from the sharing of comprehensive information and tourist offers from each sub-region. The whole region also stands to benefit from being positioned as an attractive destination in the business tourism sector. Corporate clients already account for more than half of hotel guests in the Silesia region, and Adam Wawoczny, CEO of the Silesian Tourist Organisation told the audience in Chorzów he expected many benefits to flow from the setting up of the CVB. The Silesia CVB will formally function within the Silesian Tourist Organisation, using its existing legal structure and building on its reputation and experience. Silesia embraces a cluster of several cities, inhabited by 2.2 million people, and generates huge urban, economic and social potential. An important element of the region is its rich cultural and industrial heritage.
