Global DMC Partners (GDP), one of the largest global networks of independent destination management companies (DMCs) and event service providers, recently concluded its 10th annual Connection in Punta de Mita, Mexico, 6-9 June. Co-hosted by local DMC partner Tropical Incentives and Conrad Punta de Mita, the event was an education and networking conference. Nearly 200 attendees from around the globe shared insights and trends, best practices, and networked, as well as taking part in off-site activities. Rising costs were highlighted, with DMCs reporting a 30% increase in pricing across essentials. Planners have been facing higher costs, budget management issues, and availability of venues. Creative solutions included a focus on sustainability, simpler meetings, innovative partnerships, and out-of-the-box thinking in décor, food, and leveraging AI. Trends identified were a commitment to sustainability, wellness initiatives, and DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion). Technology and AI, particularly generative AI, were noted for their growing impact on the event sector. Destination choices were influenced by geopolitical factors, with a preference for budget-friendly locations. GDP president and CEO Catherine Chaulet said: “Punta de Mita was the perfect choice for our milestone 10th Connection…Tropical Incentives and Conrad Punta de Mita truly rolled out the red carpet. We were impressed by Mexico’s warm hospitality and the variety of cultural, philanthropic, wellness, and adventure offerings.” Connection is by invitation only for qualified planners, who can contact their GDP sales advisor to be considered for the 2025 event.
