Sibu, Sarawak is the first destination in Malaysia—and Asia— to host the Participatory Design Conference (PCD) in 2024 and to be organised by the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS).
Participatory design is commonly known as ‘co-design’ and attempts to actively involve stakeholders such as employees, citizens, and end users in the design process to help ensure the result meets is usable and meets their needs.
During a press conference, UTS noted that PDC is usually held in Europe so the city of Sibu is jubilant to win the hosting rights.
PDC2024 will be a 10-day programme where delegates will participate in pre and post-activities involving Sibu’s urban and longhouse community. During the conference, discussions will take place on the design of products, services and socio-technical systems with new communication and presentation models to reshape participation.
