The island of Sardinia made a return to IBTM World recently. The second largest island in the Mediterranean showed off its offer for congress and business tourism, as it used the trade fair platform to strengthen its links with Spain and abroad. With more than 24,00sqm, Sardinia is the third largest region in Italy and boasts three international airports, Cagliari-Elmas Airport, Olbia-Costa Smeralda Airport, and Alghero-Fertilia Airport, with direct connections from Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Valencia, and Bilbao. It also has four seaports; one of them, Puerto Torres, connects with Barcelona thanks to the Grimaldi Lines company. Sardinia brought to IBTM some of the most renowned companies in the MICE sector based on the island and was one of just five destinations chosen for the IBTM Culture Roadshow to highlight their unique MICE offer. Part of Sardinia’s unique offer is the nuraghe (preserved megalithic constructions in Europe and which are more than 3,000 years old). Sardinia offers a treasure of visual and cultural pleasures that, with its festivals and fairs, really animate the destination. Examples of this are the Festival of Sant’Efisio, the surprising mining path of Santa Barbara, or the Carnivals that are celebrated in some Sardinian towns such as Bosa, Tempio Pausania, or in municipalities of the mountainous area of Barbagia. In addition to its wide cultural offer, Sardinia offers a range of sports activities and active tourism options. Practising surfing, kitesurfing, diving, or canoeing is popular in many of the coasatal resorts; but what perhaps not everyone knows is Sardinia’s extensive interior landscape, its nature, and environmental diversity that allow sports such as hiking, trekking, mountain biking, climbing or caving, which helps to make the island an ideal destination in any time of the year.
Sardinia takes advantage of IBTM Culture Roadshow to showcase its unique MICE offer
The Mediterranean gem returns to IBTM. Sardinia showcased its congress tourism strengths with ancient nuraghe sites and modern connectivity. Three international airports link to major Spanish cities while cultural festivals animate the destination year-round. Adventure seekers find surfing and mountain sports alike.
