SOUTH KOREA – Seoul has secured the winning bid to host the Annual Congress of the International Fiscal Association in 2018.
The gathering of finance specialists, set to attract 2,500 delegates from over 100 countries, was won over bids from Russia and South Africa.
Established in 1938, the International Financial Conference was set up to study and advance international and comparative law for public finance. It has only twice before been conducted in Asia, with previous host cities being New Delhi and Kyoto. Seoul is the third.
Earlier in the year, the rules on financial subsidies for event organisers seeking to choose Seoul as a venue were changed. The government announced that the previous figure of US$49,600 would rise to $82,800 for conventions with over 2,000 attendees. The city has already won the right to host 13 international conferences following the move.
