ASIA – During an incentive travel reward experience to South East Asia Subaru dealers committed funds to save a Cambodian orphanage from closure.

Incentive and motivation agency AYMTM organised the trip and took the dealers to Hanoi and Halong Bay in Vietnam and Siem Peap in Cambodia.

Earlier in the year Subaru had set up a corporate initiative to help a rudimentary orphanage in Trang Village, Siem Reap, Cambodia that supports 40 children aged from 3 to 16. Dealers and their customers donated enough items including clothing, bedding, books, games, paper and pencils that were shipped out before the trip for the dealers to hand over to the children while they were there.

When the dealers visited the orphanage, one of the delegates Chris Green discovered it was under threat of closure unless $18,000 could be raised to pay for the land and building, with a deadline of 24 December 2012. Green pledged £1,000 to the cause, and within 15 minutes the 16 dealers together had pledged the $18,000 to safeguard its future.

“Our dealers have shown that an incentive travel experience can be a lot more than a thank-you experience in an exotic location,” says MD of Subaru UK, Darren James. “They worked hard for the privilege of qualifying for the trip and no incentive, no matter how well planned could have delivered the feel good factor the team of dealers will walk away from in knowing they have made a huge difference to the lives of others in need.”

Faith Pattie, AYMTM Account Director, adds: “It’s remarkable that during an incentive travel trip, which included an aspect of CSR whereby the dealers were due to deliver the essentials for the kids they had collected over the year from customers, would actually result in a profound move to secure the orphanage’s existence.”
