The Italian city of Florence has confirmed four new congresses booked in between 2018 and 2020, following bid success by Firenze Convention and Visitors Bureau and its members.
The Firenze Fiera Congress and Exhibition Centre played a leading role in landing the business and will host, first, the regional meeting of the International Society for Cellular Therapy in 2018 for 300 delegates from all over Europe.
Two further congresses have been confirmed in 2019: the International Congress on Controversies in Rheumatology Autoimmunity (CORA) – hosted in Florence for the second time after its first edition of 2011 and organised by international PCO, Kenes. The National Congress of LIONS also brings 2,000 delegates to the Teatro Verdi of Florence in the same year.
In September 2020, the Firenze Fiera will be hosting the IEEE Radar Conference. FCVB supported that bid f by finding an institutional venue to host the gala dinner for free thanks to its partnership with Florence Municipality.
Confirmed last month, these four congresses will bring over 4,000 delegates and have an economic impact estimated at 2.5m euros.
Eight congresses have also been confirmed in the first semester of 2017 by the bureau’s bidding department, and nearly 180 MICE events requests has been received and managed by the FCVB team from January to June.
The bureau says a major factor in achieving these results for Florence was a special subvention plan dedicated to international conferences developed by it together with Firenze Fiera Congress and Exhibition Centre, Tecnoconference – TC Group and other local major MICE industry players.
Up to 60,000 euros worth of value in services from Florence professionals can be offered to secure the most important and relevant international conferences, the bureau says.
The FCVB plans to build on this initial success, by officially launching special subvention plan before the end of 2017.
