AFRICA – The Government of Swaziland has given the go ahead for a new International Convention Centre (ICC) and five-star hotel to be built in Ezulwini at the cost of E1bn (US$1m). The ICC will be able to accommodate 4,500 delegates when complete.
The construction project will be funded by the Government and run by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development’s Millennium Projects Management Unit.
A feasibility study and business plan for the project are currently underway with conceptual designs for the ICC and hotel complete.
News agency, Times of Swaziland, reports Senior Engineer of the unit, Wilcan Mdluli, has said construction of the six-storey building was envisaged to start mid-2014 and was expected to take three years to complete.
The ICC will include a congress theatre, banqueting halls, exhibition hall, restaurant, several meeting and outdoor event spaces.
“It will be a facility of international standard, with a Swazi theme and will have a secure chamber room to take 53 heads of state,” said Mdluli. “There will be a 3,500-seat banqueting hall and 1,500-seat theatre.”
