UK business travellers to EU countries could face fines if they do not apply for special permits to visit conferences or exhibitions in the European Union, according to a report in the UK’s Guardian newspaper, 10 December. The newspaper’s Brexit correspondent said a situation where there was no deal for the service industry could lead to fines of up to €20,000 for UK travellers. In a non-negotiated outcome for Brexit, the report noted there could be up to 30 different sets of rules for UK-based delegates to abide by in future, according to which country is visited. Under such a scenario, some EU countries could allow visitors from the UK to attend a tradeshow, while others may allow visitors to attend but not exhibit, the report said, quoting Tim Thomas, a consultant with specialist firm International Employment Mobility Consultancy.   Image: “UK EU Brexit” by ChiralJon is licensed under CC BY 2.0
