AMERICAS – Led by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), a group of UK creative companies are set to embark on a mission to Brazil in a bid to demonstrate UK creativity and boost trade.
The group will meet Brazilian companies including those from the film, TV, music and digital sectors, and the Secretary of Culture for the State of Sao Paulo, Marcelo Mattos Araújo.
“Brazil creates huge opportunities for British businesses,” says UK Trade and Investment Chief Executive Nick Baird. “The UK has one of the world’s largest and most successful creative industries sectors. Exports of UK creative services total just under £9bn (US$14bn) and British creative influence, including in Brazil, is highly regarded.
“This year the eyes of the world have been on the UK for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and our creative industries, showcased by Danny Boyle at the Opening Ceremony, are generating an even greater buzz. The time is right to trade with our international partners,” Baird adds.
According to a new report written by the Economist Intelligent Unit (EIU) and commissioned by UKTI, Brazil’s total spend on media and entertainment grew 56 per cent between 2006 and 2010, and UKTI says this means there is an opportunity for more UK-based firms to start exporting their products and services to Brazil.
Delegates visiting Brazil next week will have the chance to hear more about the findings of the report at a conference event during the mission. The event will be led by representatives from the EIU and will include input from the chief executives of some of Brazil’s major media conglomerates, such as Globo and Editora Abril.
The invited firms on the mission include London-based RSA Films; a professional audio equipment company, AMS Neve; Ditto Music; Belfast-based Scoredrawmusic and Silva Screen Records.
“Brazil, on many fronts, is about to have a huge impact on the world with the upcoming World Cup and the Olympics and its an ideal opportunity, post London, for us to establish relationships with local commercial production companies and to meet some creative agencies in Sao Paulo and Rio,” says Sales Director at RSA Films, Damiano Vukotic.
