A new survey shows travellers are willing to pay more for peace of mind – specifically, a hotel stay guaranteed to be bed bug-free. Valpas uses smart, built-in traps to detect and stop bed bugs before they spread – with no need for chemical sprays or pesticides.

The Finland-based hotel tech company says guests would pay up to €5 extra per night for a hotel that certifies its rooms as permanently protected. Valpas is already used by more than 300 hotels globally.

“We’re tapping into a wider shift toward attribute-based selling in hospitality,” said Martim Gois, co-founder and CEO of Valpas. “Travelers today book with their values in mind, and the guarantee of a safe and sustainable stay is now a make-or-break factor.”

Bed bug safety as a bookable feature

Valpas is positioning itself as the first attribute-based hotel tech provider focused on hygiene. Unlike traditional upsells like breakfast or parking, attribute-based selling (ABS) highlights main room features that drive bookings – and can be promoted across direct channels. Valpas integrates into this model, enabling hotels to label and promote “bed bug safe” rooms in real time.

Valpas is pesticide-free and built into guest room furniture. The system detects and traps any pests before they spread, providing constant protection without chemicals.

At a Novotel property in Paris, guests rated a Valpas-equipped room 9.5/10 for hygiene. When asked if they would return to a hotel offering the same guarantee, the average score was 9.1/10.

According to Valpas, its hotel clients report: Increased average daily rates (ADR) Growth in direct bookings and RFP wins Higher guest satisfaction and loyalty

The company says its certification helps hotels monetise safety, win back control from OTAs and differentiate in a highly competitive market.
