AMERICAS – The Winnipeg Convention Centre (WCC) is to change its name on 1 January 2016 after the Canadian-based Royal Bank won a bidding war for the naming rights.
The announcement, which did not reveal the new name, how many other companies bid or how much the bank paid, was made by the WCC President and CEO Klaus Lahr. The news was announced at a news conference overlooking the CA$180m (US$170m) expansion site of the convention centre, which will be built over the next two and a half years.
The development will add an extra 65,000sqm of exhibition space and 30,000sqm of meeting space.
The partnership agreement is for a 10-year period.
