Following an exceptional meeting of its Executive Board on 4 March 2026, World Climbing has said it will now hold its General Assembly 2026, originally scheduled to take place in person in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in a fully virtual format.

The decision was taken after consultation with the Saudi Climbing and Hiking Federation (SCHF) and careful consideration of the current situation in West Asia. The safety and wellbeing of National Federations and their representatives remain the top priority, the organisation said.

The General Assembly will now take place virtually on, 23 April 2026. Further practical details and the final agenda will be shared in the coming weeks. The agenda will be limited to statutory items requiring reporting and approval, while discursive sessions will be deferred to the Climbing Summit in December 2026.

The in-person General Assembly in Riyadh has been postponed to April 2027, in recognition of the efforts made by the SCHF. Confirmed dates will be communicated as soon as possible the association added.
