Mining innovation, artificial intelligence, and circular economy are some of the topics covered by 600 abstracts submitted to the 2026 World Mining Congress (WMC 2026) organisers. Evaluation results will be announced on 28 October.

The WMC 2026 received 600 proposals from 38 countries – meaning that researchers, engineers and industry experts from around the world sent in summaries of their technical papers or presentations for consideration. The scale of the response confirms the event’s global reach and its role as a leading platform in the mining industry.

The highest number of submissions came from Peru (290), followed by Brazil (50), Australia (43), Canada (38), Chile (36), and the United States (34). The most popular topics were ‘Mining Science & Innovation’, ‘AI & Data-Driven Decision Making’, and ‘Process Innovation, Circularity & Recovery’. Emphasis on these subjects shows the industry’s (and, by and large, the world’s) growing emphasis on efficiency and digitalisation.

Notifications of acceptance and invitations to submit full papers will be sent on 28 October 2025. Final papers must be submitted by 15 January 2026, with the official programme to be published on April 23, 2026.

The World Mining Congress 2026 will take place 24-26 June, 2026, in Lima, Peru, bringing together industry leaders, government representatives, academia and international organisations under the theme: ‘Mining for the future: Trust, Technology and Transformation’.
