Adelaide Convention Centre is to become home to the world’s largest rotating seating drums.

The feature, nearing completion, will be part of the new East Building, the second stage in the centre’s A$400m ($US309.59m) expansion.

The structural steel is all in place, with the work on the roofing progressing from north to south across the building.

Management says visitors are already able to get a sense of how the centre’s three buildings combine to create a striking presence overlooking the River Torrens.

Completion of the glazing on the northern side of the East Building has opened up sweeping views of the Riverbank Precinct including postcard vistas of the Adelaide Oval, Festival Theatre and Riverbank Bridge.

In recent months, the building cladding has been installed to provide waterproofing and insulation.

Work is now shifting onto the building’s interior, with completion of the East Building scheduled for 2017. When open, it will provide plenary capacity of up to 3,500 seats.
