AIPC and ABEA are launching the ANZ Academy, a leadership training programme designed specifically for convention centre professionals. Set to debut in June 2025, the five-day programme will teach participants how manage venues, approach strategy and generally be industry leaders.
Bringing global training to the ANZ region
The International Association of Convention Centres (AIPC) and the Australian Business Events Association (ABEA) announced the partnership at the AIPC@AIME summit, 12 February. The initiative brings the AIPC Academy – a highly regarded global programme – to Australia for the first time, making it more accessible to convention centre professionals in Australia and New Zealand.
“This is a game-changer for venue professionals in the region,” said Peter King, chair of ABEA. “Previously, many had to travel overseas for this level of training. Now, we’re making it available locally while keeping costs down.”
“The return on investment has been huge” – Natalie O’Brien
The ANZ Academy will be hosted by Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC). CEO Natalie O’Brien AM highlighted how much her team had benefited from participating in the programme in the past: “We’ve sent our team to the AIPC Academy in Brussels before, and the return on investment has been huge. Now, with the programme in Melbourne, more professionals across the region can access this opportunity.”
The programme will combine expert-led sessions with hands-on exercises, giving attendees practical skills they can apply immediately.
A strategic partnership with long-term goals
Bringing the AIPC Academy to the region aligns with AIPC’s strategy to expand engagement in key markets. “In 2025, we’re delivering four Academies globally,” said Ross Steele, AIPC board member and CEO of Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre. “This ANZ programme is tailored to regional challenges while maintaining the Academy’s high standards.”
To ensure top-tier programme delivery, AIPC and ABEA are working with REVSTAR Group, a Melbourne-based consultancy specialising in business events and hospitality. More details on the programme and registration can be found on the AIPC and ABEA websites.
