ASM Global, leading producer of entertainment experiences, venue management and event strategy, has appointed Will Berryman (pictured) as general manager of the new Henrico Sports & Events Center, scheduled to open at Virginia Center Commons in the USA in October. Berryman brings more than 15 years of parks, recreation and sports event-operations experience to Henrico Sports & Events Center. Prior to joining Henrico County’s newest venue, Berryman was the assistant general manager for the 285,000-square-foot Virginia Beach Sports Center. Berryman will manage day-to-day operations at the new $50m venue which was developed through a partnership between Henrico and Rebkee Co. It is a redevelopment of the former Virginia Center Commons mall property. The 185,000-square-foot facility will feature an arena with a 3,500-guest capacity as well as a flexible event space. Through 2024, 42 organisations have already scheduled 185 dates, including tournaments, practices, meetings and other events. “Henrico Sports & Events Center is the beginning of an exciting time for Henrico County, and Will’s extensive background in the management and operation of sports and recreation events will be invaluable for this new venue,” said Les Crooks, regional vice-president, ASM Global. “I am excited to take on the role of general manager at Henrico Sports & Events Center,” said Berryman. “The new venue will be a vibrant hub of sports, entertainment and community engagement; and I look forward to the exciting events and new opportunities the venue will bring to Henrico County.”
