Adelaide Venue Management (AVM), the organisation operating the Adelaide Convention Centre, Adelaide Entertainment Centre, and Coopers Stadium, has launched its first Environmental Social Governance (ESG) strategy, titled The Green Print. The Green Print is a four-year plan covering 2024 to 2027. It charts AVM’s journey towards sustainability, aiming to decrease the organisation’s environmental footprint while enhancing its positive influence on communities. This strategy extends AVM’s longstanding commitment to hosting responsible events, aligning closely with both State and Federal sustainability objectives, as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Martin Radcliffe, CEO of Adelaide Venue Management, said: “Sustainability is a key focus in our industry, driven by increasing expectations from patrons and the desire of event organisers to partner with environmentally conscious venues”. “The Green Print will direct our ESG efforts over the next four years, focusing on the areas most crucial to our clients, team, and the broader industry,” Radcliffe explained. The plan encompasses enhancing the environmental efficiency of their venues and devising practical solutions for clients and visitors to contribute to a sustainable future. Key areas of focus in The Green Print include going green by adopting strategies like reducing energy use, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and aiming to divert 95% of waste from landfill alongside transitioning to 100% LED lighting and increasing renewable energy production. Sustainable sourcing is a priority, maintaining at least 97% of suppliers from South Australia to support local businesses and the region’s renowned food and beverage industries. Community education and engagement will enhance social sustainability and deepen connections with First Nations suppliers and local non-profits. The plan also emphasises adapting to climate change with EarthCheck standards and fostering biodiversity. Good governance practices will ensure transparency, with regular updates in an annual ESG report detailing progress towards these targets. Julian Marchant, AVM’s first dedicated ESG planning and project manager, said: “The Green Print articulates our commitment to doing ‘more good’ for our communities and the environment.”
