Bruges to host autism and learning disability conference

Meeting in Brugges, the convention bureau for the city of Bruges, will host the TOL conference in the city’s Concertgebouw 4 October 2019. The conference is organised by TOL, a multidisciplinary centre for language, development and learning disabilities which is based in Bruges. TOL specialises in diagnosing and treating young people and adults who are experiencing difficulties with academic skills, motor skills, emotions, behaviour and social functioning. It also provides study counselling for young people and adults. The team at TOL specialises in the research and treatment of autism, ADHD, dyslexia, depression, anxieties, dyspraxia and burn-out. The conference is targeted at care specialists (speech therapists, psychologists, doctors, student counsellors) and also teachers and board members of primary and secondary schools. The theme of the conference is: ‘Why learn?’, with special attention being paid to the relationship between education and therapy and to the effects of the treatment of learning and behavioural disabilities. Barbara Delagrange, clinical psychologist at TOL, said: “The programme of this conference is very diverse and interesting, focusing on topical issues related to education, care and networking. The speakers establish links between science and practice.” Alderman of Tourism Philip Pierins said: “Both young people and adults benefit from the presence of TOL in Bruges. For 25 years now, the multidisciplinary team of speech therapists, psychologists, psychomotor therapists, and child psychiatrists has been helping children and adults who are experiencing difficulties with language, development, or learning. We are very happy that TOL has chosen Bruges as the venue for their conference for the ninth consecutive time.”
