Plans for the expansion of Copenhagen’s Bella Centre have been released and, if realised, operators claim it will then become Northern Europe’s largest congress hall. Allan L. Agerholm, CEO of BC Hospitality Group, which owns and operates the Bella Centre, said of the major new investment: “With the growing demand for international congresses in recent years, we’re in a situation where Copenhagen has to keep up the pace and further consolidate its position as an attractive international congress destination… the sooner we can get started with this project and upgrade of Copenhagen’s congress facilities, the better”. The plans for the Bella Centre’s expansion are still pending but Copenhagen can look forwards to expanded congress capacity within the next few years. Agerholm has estimated that congress related activities would bring in DKK 600m-700m (US$93.6m) per year in the capital region. Under the new plans, the venue will expand by approximately 14,000sqm including a seating area for 7,000 guests, potentially making it the largest in Northern Europe, along with an additional 7,000sqm of flexible meetings facilities. Completion date for the project is estimated to be late 2020. To discover more on the Bella Centre click here. – Words by Luke Weaving
