Intellectual property World Congress returns to London after 30 years

The international association for the protection of intellectual property, AIPPI, will be holding its 2019 World Congress at London’s QEII Centre from 15-18 September – 30 years after last being held in the country.

The AIPPI is the world’s leading organisation dedicated to the development and improvement of laws for the protection of intellectual property.

More than 1,800 delegates from 81 countries have already registered for the event, which will take place over four days from 15-18 September at the QEII Centre.

The Congress is famous for its education programme, which this year will be focusing on hot topics such as Brexit and artificial intelligence (AI) as part of the programme of plenary and panel sessions.

Cinzia Petruzzello, director of meetings and operations at AIPPI, said: “Location is very important to our event, which rotates between Europe, Asia and the Americas. When we were looking at Europe for 2019 we realised we hadn’t been to London for 30 years, and as the IP industry is so strong in the city, it was the right time to come back. We worked with London & Partners to find a venue, and the QEII Centre was chosen for both its size and location – Westminster is known all around the world and doesn’t require any explanation, and being so centrally located means delegates can easily see clients and do business while visiting for the Congress.”

Mark Taylor, chief executive of the QEII Centre, said: “I’m delighted that AIPPI has chosen to host their 2019 Congress at QEII. Not only is it great for us to host a world-leading event like this, but it is fantastic for Westminster and for London to be attracting such important conferences and reinforcing what a great city London is for global events.”
