International Confex 21’s Let’s Do London theatre saw its fourth Day 1 session, 1 September, held under the title ‘Key skills for (corporate) event planners looking to succeed’. The panel of corporate event planners discussed how they’ve adapted their skills during the pandemic and how they see this looking in the future.
Speakers for the event included Edward Poland, co-founder of Hire Space; Claire Melton, global head of events at IHS Markit; and Lizzy Eaton, founder of Oddity Events & Marketing.
Using technology to sustain events during the pandemic was outlined as the major stepping stone over the past 18 months. Poland shared that ‘technical nightmares’ were something that everyone had to learn to live with during the period of lockdowns. Eaton believed that in order to cope with the enhanced use of technology in event planning you had to use “your own network to ask the right people, the right questions”.
Within the discussion, flexibility was seen as key within these uncertain times. Melton argued that it was vital to be able “to dial up and dial down the virtual element of events”, so that if Covid-19 circumstances change there is a chance to appropriately adapt.
