Malaysia is to be the first Asian country host for Radiodays Asia (RDA). The 2019 edition will take place 27-28 August at the Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur. The Radiodays Europe (RDE) is a leading international conference for radio professional in Europe and worldwide. The conference was introduced in 2010 and has since been held annually, rotating to different host cities. Malaysia expects 500 delegates for the KL edition, and an estimated economic impact from the event of RM5.4 m (US$1.29m). The conference is also supported by Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB). “We are honoured to have Radiodays Asia 2019 for the first time in Asia, and here in Kuala Lumpur. I was informed that RDA planned to hold their event annually in Kuala Lumpur for a three-year period, starting next year. By having Radiodays Asia here in our country, this will benefit the radio broadcasters in Malaysia, and offers the opportunity to showcase Malaysia to international audience,” said Datuk Zulkefli Hj. Sharif, Chief Executive Officer of MyCEB. Themed ‘Meet the Future of Radio and Audio’, Radiodays Asia 2019 will focus on the future on radio and audio businesses, exposing broadcasters in Asia to advanced strategies and ideas to benefit Asian radio and audio businesses. The event bid was made in 2017, when there was strong competition from Dubai, Singapore and Sydney. MyCEB said Dubai showed strong marketing support as well as the backing of local radio broadcasters; whereas Sydney have their own national radio event – an advantage for RDE to leverage on this show and combine it for a bigger event for Asia Pacific. Malaysia won the bid, however, due to its competitive cost and financial support from MyCEB, the agency said. MyCEB has secured a record 1,100 international business events over the eight years from 2010 to 2018. These events, the agency believes, have contributed an estimated economic impact of RM8.5bn to the country and benefited Malaysia’s local businesses and communities. In addition, last year MyCEB reports securing 152 future events that collectively brought more than 162,623 international delegates, translating into an estimated economic impact of RM1.58bn. MyCEB hopes that Radiodays Asia will assist the government’s aspiration to achieve 30m tourist arrivals and RM100bn in tourist receipts. More information: www.radiodayasia.com
