Two Oak View Group-managed venues have achieved Silver Level Certification in the Event Industry Council’s (EIC) Sustainable Events Standards – Chicago’s McCormick Place and the Miami Beach Convention Center. The EIC Sustainable Events Standards assesses performance in areas including organisational management, marketing, climate action, water management, materials and circularity, supply chain management, diversity, equity, and inclusion and accessibility.

Some of the sustainable methods employed by McCormick Place include the largest farm-to-fork rooftop garden in the Midwest, a partnership with a food rescue nonprofit, a strategy to offset 100% of electricity usage with certified wind renewable energy certificates and an initiative protecting migratory birds.

The Miami Beach Convention Center’s (MBCC) efforts include energy efficiency, recycling and waste reduction, food donation and composting, onsite herb & vegetable garden and community volunteering. Following a $640m redevelopment in 2020, the MBCC has raised the bar for business events in the region.

The MBCC also holds the Certified Autism Center designation (IBCCES) and the US Green Building Council’s LEED Silver certification.

CEO of the EIC, Amy Calvert, commented: “Oak View Group, McCormick Place and the Miami Beach Convention Center are modelling the way forward for our industry in terms of sustainability, innovation and support for the communities.”
