The Hotel at the University of Maryland introduces “Meetings in a Museum,” an option for meeting planners looking to host meetings at unconventional venues. The venue holds over 100 pieces of artwork, with information available for guests to embark on a self-guided tour.

The art pieces are located mainly in the bottom two floors of the hotel, and feature “contemporary aesthetics”, according to curator Rhonda Dallas. “Our art collection features pieces in various mediums combining colors, textures, and images … Meeting planners can utilise our in-house museum as a break or group activity for guests,” director of sales and marketing at the hotel, Adriana Niepa said.

The Hotel of the University of Maryland has been ranked as the number seven best hotel in Maryland, and is directly across the street from the University of Maryland – ranked 44th in national universities in the US. The hotel is an AAA four-diamond property, with 297 guest rooms and suites.

Rhonda Dallas explained that the art collection came about from a conversation with the CEO of parent company of The Hotel at the University of Maryland, David Hillman, at a Chamber of Commerce event many years ago. Mr Hillman’s “generosity” led to the creation of this showcase for local artists.

After Hillman’s passing, his wife Suzanne Hillman “has carried on his legacy, ensuring art is an integral part of The Hotel of the University of Maryland”, Rhonda said. Click here to learn more about The Hotel at the University of Maryland.
