Perth to host 2024 Environmental Health World Congress

Western Australia (WA) has officially been awarded the 17th World Congress on Environmental Health (WCEH) 2024, according to an announcement by Business Events Perth. The International Federation of Environmental Health’s council members voted to support Western Australia’s bid as presented by Environmental Health Australia – Western Australia (EHA WA). This will be in partnership with Business Events Perth to hold the next congress in the city in May 2024. The congress is expected to be attended by over 700 environmental health professionals, for a six-day program addressing the challenges faced in the global environmental health sector. Deputy premier and minister for tourism, the Hon. Roger Cook MLA, said the event aligned well with WA’s sustainability goals, adding: “Business events and conferences like the 2024 Environmental Health World Congress play a critical role in our state’s tourism industry, which is why we boosted the sector with an extra $15 million of funding through the AUD $195m (USD $133m) Reconnect WA package.” Hon. Reece Whitby MLA, WA’s minister for environment and climate action, commented that the WA Government understands that preparing for the future means acting on the changing climate and its impact on local communities and the environment. Whitby said: “Hosting the World Congress on Environmental Health 2024 will provide the opportunity to showcase leading research and policies that support measures aimed at adaptation and mitigation of the negative health impacts of climate change.” “In WA, we are expanding our Climate Action Fund, setting ambitious targets to reduce emissions, and we are committed to funding science and innovation.” Business Events Perth CEO Gareth Martin said that the congress was a “perfect platform” for showcasing WA’s strong base in environmental health research. “Not only will this scientific and technical conference support the business event industry in Western Australia by directly contributing upwards of AUD $2m (USD $1.4m) to the state’s economy, but it will also provide a great opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences throughout the Asia-Pacific region.”
