The Prague Congress Centre (PCC) is investing more than CZK 120 million this year in new stage and theatre technology, including a new sound system in its main Congress Hall, which will become operational this autumn.
The Congress Hall, which seats 2,764, will be the first venue in the Czech Republic to install the L-Acoustics L2 sound system, a system used on tour by major pop artists. The installation is already prepared for a future upgrade to L-ISA technology, which can create immersive 3D sound that follows a performer’s position on stage. The system is also around a third smaller and lighter than typical systems in its class, allowing speakers to be suspended above the stage and freeing up space for large productions.
Pavel Habarta, member of the board of directors responsible for technical operations, said: “This will place us among the world’s leading venues in terms of live sound quality and flexibility. This type of sound system is used on tour by some of the world’s biggest pop stars, as it delivers consistently powerful and clear sound to every audience member, regardless of where they are seated.”
Wider upgrades across the venue’s two largest halls
Alongside the sound system, PCC is replacing the point hoists and control systems in its two largest halls, converting them from hydraulic to electromechanical drives and increasing point hoist load capacity from 300kg to 500kg, changes intended to improve reliability and reduce running costs.
