The AIPC recently held a Board meeting before the start of their 2024 Annual Conference in Costa Rica. For those unable to attend, President Greg O’Dell distilled the key information.
The first decision was that the core mission of AIPC will remain the same. That mission is to encourage, support and recognise excellence in convention centre management.
The one thing that makes AIPC unique, O’Dell says, is its focus on convention centres. At the same time, the landscape has changed drastically.
Attracting talent, sustainability and cyber security are all challenging topics and top priorities. To adapt to these changes, AIPC has set up a cyber security working group and a talent programme.
However, AIPC feels there is a need for more focus. As a result, five goals have been defined: Strengthen member relationships & engagement Increase the value offered to members by continuously improving our service Establish the association as a thought leader and advocate in the convention and event industry Support the definition & implementation of industry standards & best practices with regards to hospitality, technology & sustainability Ensure operational & financial stability and growth of the association
For each of these goals, a set of SMART objectives has been defined, which will be monitored via a performance dashboard. Progress will be discussed during the two-monthly Board meetings and shared with members on a quarterly basis.
O’Dell finished the message by thanking its members for their loyalty and continued support. “AIPC has gone through a turbulent period over the last years … AIPC not only survived but came out stronger out of this period. I believe that by putting the above in place, AIPC will continue to increase the value it offers to its community.”
Recently, AIPC hosted the AIPC Africa Academy from 19-23 August 2024 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), an educational event designed to bring AIPC’s expertise to the African continent. Another major event booked for 2024 is the AIPC Operational Excellence Summit in Barcelona from 21-22 November, a forum for discussing the issues and opportunities faced by convention centres.
