The 16th International Conference on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases (AD/PD™ 2023) which ran 28 March-1April at the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre in Gothenburg, was a classic example of how conferences can drive forward innovation and research into practice to the benefit of communities. Promising developments in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s research were outlined at the conference, organised by Kenes Group, which also hosted a welcome address by Her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden, who expressed her gratitude for the efforts of the scientific community to find effective treatments for these debilitating conditions. The conference involved five days of presentations, workshops, and networking sessions. AD/PD™ 2023 brought together 4,120 participants from around the world – 3,289 onsite and 831 online – including leading scientists, clinicians, and industry representatives, to discuss the latest advances in Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and related diseases. Highlights of the conference included:
- Advances in understanding the genetic and environmental factors that contribute to the development of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
- New developments in the use of biomarkers for early detection and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
- Progress in the development of disease-modifying therapies for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, including drugs targeting beta-amyloid, tau, and alpha-synuclein.
- Emerging technologies, such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence, for improving the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
