In Australia, Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) has been partnering with the Reforest organisation to connect the tourism industry with local carbon removal by planting a second hectare of tree kangaroo habitat. TTNQ chief executive officer Mark Olsen said 40 tourism industry representatives had been helping to plant 3,150 trees at the Mabi site which would remove 637 tonnes of carbon dioxide over the next 25 years.
“Our business events programme encourages conferences and incentive groups to use Reforest to assist with delivering a sustainable event,” Olsen added. “TTNQ purchased 270 trees to remove the carbon emissions of delegates attending the incentive event Australia Next 2024 in Cairns which brought the world’s leading business events buyers to our region in September,” Olsen said.
