Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) organised the second installation of BESarawak – Tribal Gathering in the inland town of Sibu on Borneo. The event ran in conjunction with the launch of Business Events Consortium of Sibu (BECoS) and its ‘I Want to Discover Sarawak’ contest as part of the international Redefining Global Tribe (RGT) campaign.
BESarawak said the event illustrated its inclusive strategy to expand the business events capabilities of other cities within the province. Sibu is strong in the shipping, timber, palm oil and engineering sectors and the Sarawak Government is in the midst of developing its tourism, agriculture and education sectors and aligning this with Sarawak’s 7 key focus areas, namely: Urban Development/Redevelopment, Social, Environmental, Agricultural and Industrial Development, plus Service Industry and Digital Economy.
BECoS says it will promote Sibu’s abilities to host conferences and act as a catalyst for new conferences.
With the Business Events industry looking into the legacy impacts of MICE activities to enhance the socio-economic climate, BESarawak has commissioned a study on hosting conventions in the province by consultancy group GainingEdge and two universities which take a look at the various intangible benefits that is brought by 10 participating conferences.
At the same time, BESarawak is diversifying the return of investment from Business Events to tourism impact through the ‘I Want to Discover Sarawak’ contest in collaboration with Sarawak Tourism Board (STB).
