With a surge in the omicron variant knocking confidence around the world and many new restrictions being introduced on meetings and events, some key industry event calendar dates have been either postponed or cancelled, including the SITE Global Conference, due to take place in Dublin 27-31 January 2022. The global incentives association has said new dates would be announced in early January 2022. The global travel industry’s largest exhibition, ITB Berlin, is set to miss three editions in a row, following the decision by organisers to cancel the March event for 2022, although they have announced a Digital Business Day will run on 17 March 2022. The World Economic Forum, usually held annually in Davos, Switzerland, is now looking to run an online series, titled ‘State of the World’ following the decision to push back the in-person event from its scheduled 17-21 January 2022 slot to the summer 2022. The WEF usually attracts around 3,000 influential international delegates, including political and economic leaders, although last year’s annual meeting also suffered from the Covid effect, first being switched to Singapore and then, ultimately cancelling.
