The impact of heavy industry Heavy industry accounts for 30% of CO2 emissions. An industry transition to Net Zero is vital to limiting global warming to a 2°C increase by 2050. The European Green Deal is the European Union’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, and a transition for heavy industries to meet Net Zero will contribute to a cleaner, healthier future. José Sebastiao, event director of SIM, stated: “Time is running out and it is high time for heavy industry to act against an “irreversible” climate crisis. “Maastricht is the oldest industrial city in the Netherlands, located within walking distance of Belgium and cycling distance of Germany. We are delighted to be able to organise the next SIM Europe in Maastricht.” “We are proud to host SIM Europe, an event that is actively committed to improving sustainability in major manufacturing sectors,” added Frank Mimpen, MECC Maastricht commercial director.
