Tim Harris (pictured) has been appointed as the new interim chair of South Africa Tourism’s Board, the country’s Department of Tourism has confirmed.

Harris is the former CEO of Wesgro, the Western Cape’s official tourism, trade and investment promotion agency.

“The Interim Board understands the urgency and work required to bring greater alignment in all our work and I wish them well in the duties,” said tourism minister Patricia de Lille.

Vincent Zwelibanzi Mntambo and Kholeka Zama were appointed along with Harris to the interim structure as part of a trio to sort out the organisation.

The new slimmed down team was put in place after De Lille decided to dissolve the former SA Tourism board following resignations and controversy over its expenditure, proposed R900m sponsorship deal with English Premier League football club Tottenham Hotspur and allegations of impropriety.
