Tokyo wins Annual Meeting of International Continence Society 2016

ASIA – Tokyo has won its bid to host the 46th Annual Meeting of the International Continence Society in 2016, which is expected to attract 3,000 delegates from 70 countries.
 
The International Continence Society (headquartered in Bristol, UK) is an international society of various professionals involved in the field of incontinence and established for the development of treatments for the illness. The annual meetings are international and hosted at different locations worldwide; the first was held in Exeter, the United Kingdom in 1971. In an Internet poll by its society members, Tokyo received a majority of 326 out of 431 votes for the event to visit the city.
 
Tokyo Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Executive Director Yasuyuki Matsumoto says: “I am delighted that as a result of our bureau’s efforts working together with the organiser resulted in Tokyo winning the bid with such a resounding margin of votes. We will make every effort to support the hosting of the event so that people from all over theworld can experience the hospitality of Tokyo.”
 
The 2016 event is to be held at the Tokyo International Forum. The venue successfully hosted the 2012 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group in which more than 10,000 people participated.
 
Meanwhile, Tokyo Metropolitan Government has set a ‘five-year Tourism Plan’ starting from 2013 and is promoting business events as one of six main pillars of the plan. The plan will focus on meetings of associations and provides various support programmes including subvention.
